Our copyediting contains all of the elements of our proofreading, as well as stylistic edits aimed at improving the overall quality of the writing. The general goal of our copyediting is to improve readability, clarity, style, structure and flow.
Specifically, our copyediting focuses on:
Rephrasing unclear sentences to improve the flow of the writing and make the meaning clear.
Adjusting sentence length, word choice, and paragraph structure to improve clarity and flow.
Identifying and removing redundant words or phrases that add no value to the text.
Detecting and removing repetitions from the text.
Ensuring consistent use of terminology, especially in technical or specialised texts.
Ensuring the text’s tone is appropriate for its intended audience (whether formal, informal, technical, or conversational) while preserving the author’s voice.
Checking that ideas are presented in a logical order and transitions between paragraphs and sections are smooth.
Verifying facts, figures, names, and other details to ensure accuracy.
Enhancing word choice when the writer's word choice is incorrect or vague.
Making suggestions for where arguments, references etc could be improved.
Adding comments to the file using the track change function in Word to suggest areas for the client to improve on.
For our copyediting, we:
use track changes in Microsoft Word to highlight edits and provide detailed feedback on areas for improvement.
provide you with two versions of the copyedited document – one clean final version, and the other using track changes to show where the edits have been made.
ensure that your final work conveys your message succinctly and effectively, helping you leave a positive impression on your readers.
