Admission letters: SOPs or personal statements 

While some clients may simply want us to proofread or copyedit their résumés/CVs, others may want us to substantially review their university admission letter variously known as statement of purpose (SOP), personal statement, motivation letter, statement of intent or simply cover letter.

Specifically, our review of any of these documents involves:

• Ensuring the student’s academic and career goals are clearly articulated in the statement and well align with the offerings in the candidate’s proposed programme of study.

• Making sure the document demonstrates the candidate’s genuine enthusiasm for the field and the programme of study.

• Where applicable, checking that the content aligns with criteria for scholarships or funding, showcasing the student's merit or financial need.

• Ensuring that the candidate’s academic, professional, and extracurricular achievements are well-presented and relevant to the programme.

• Ensuring the candidate outlines how they plan to contribute to and engage with the academic community.

• Specifically evaluating the effectiveness of the opening and closing statements to ensure the letter is persuasive and leaves a strong impression.

We will use track changes in Microsoft Word to highlight edits and provide detailed feedback on areas for improvement, so you will be provided with two versions of the edited document – one clean final version, and the other using track changes to show where the edits have been made.
